General Info
With the exception of mobile headsets all headsets have a quick disconnect at the end of the cord.  This quick disconnect is proprietary to the manufacturer.  You cannot attach a headset from one manufacturer to an amplifier from another.  In order to attach a headset directly to a phone set you will need to purchase an adaptor (NTN) cord or an amplifier.  Some may find it difficult to understand what is needed to connect a headset to a phone set.  If you are still confused after reviewing the info on this page please email us with your questions.

Browser Compatibility Note
This site was tested on a Pentium PC running WinXP Home. Browsers tested: Internet Explorer versions 6 and 7 Beta2; Firefox v1.5.0.6; Netscape versions 7.2 and 8.1 and Opera versions 8.54 and 9.00.  Since all browsers listed are free to download we did not test versions prior to those listed.

What is ...

What is a direct connect adaptor cord (NTN)?
This is a curly cord approximately one foot in length that stretches to about six feet.  The adaptor cord must be used to attach a headset to a phone set that is designed to accept a headset directly.

What is an amplifier adaptor?
For those phone sets that are not headset capable, an amplifier must be used.  The amplifier can be either corded or cordless.  The corded model consists of a small box that sits beside your phone and plugs into the handset port on your phone.  Your handset will then plug into the amplifier so you will be able to switch between handset and headset. The headset will plug into the amplifier via a quick disconnect adaptor cord included with the amplifier.  A cordless unit consists of a base unit that plugs into your phone the same way as the corded amplifier mentioned earlier.  The headset will then connect to a remote unit that you carry around with you.

What are amplified / un-amplified headsets?
Headset manufacturers sometimes provide two versions of a model of headset.  An amplified headset is one that requires an amplifier to operate correctly on a phone set.  An un-amplified headset is designed to plug directly into those phone sets that can accept a headset directly using an adaptor (NTN) cord.  An un-amplified headset should not be used with an amplifier because the microphone is more sensitive and may be damaged.  Conversely, plugging an amplified headset into a compatible phone set or directly into the handset port may result in good receive audio but very low transmit audio.  The Plantronics Polaris series of headsets (designated with a "P" instead of an "H" in front of the model number) are direct connect headsets.  The GN Netcom 1200 direct connect adaptor cord has a setting which provides low level amplification. So any GN Netcom headset can be used with this cord or an amplifier.

What is a Jabra EarGel?
The EarGel secures the JABRA hands-free accessory in your outer ear for hours of comfortable wear. Each JABRA product comes with three sizes of EarGels for both the left and right ears, assuring a perfect fit for virtually every user. The EarGel's patented design boosts sound, making even low spectrum sounds easy to hear. Plus, EarGels are washable and healthier for your ear than earpads.

What is the shopping cart?
The shopping cart is the page which will keep track of your purchases while viewing this site.  Each product item feature page contains an 'Add to Cart' button.  Selecting this button will place the displayed item into the shopping cart.  Clicking on the 'View Cart' button will display the shopping cart page where quantities can be adjusted or items deleted.  Do not worry though, you have not purchased anything until you complete the transaction via the PayPal payment window.  Click here for more info on making a purchase.

What are the Shipping Costs?
Shipping cost within Canada or the US is $16 CDN ($16 US) for the first item.  Add $4 CDN ($4 US) for each additional item.  Headset Emporium ships to Canada and the continental US only.

How To...

How to navigate this site.
Navigating this site is quite simple.  The top left of every page contains 4 primary links. 'Home' takes you to the main page of this site.  'Email' Us' displays your email message page for the user to fill out and send to us.  'How To...' displays this page you are now reading and 'Site Map' give you access to every product page on this site.

Along the left side of every page is also a navigation graphic.  Outside 'The Store' the navigation options are 'Store' which takes you to the store introduction page; 'Contact Us' displays a page with ways of getting in touch with us; 'Service' provides info on getting your product serviced; and 'About Us' gives a little info about our company.

Within the 'Store' the navigation graphic displays the name of each headset manufacturer we represent. Just placing your cursor on one of the navigation items will display a popup menu of headset categories.  Moving your cursor over one of these categories and clicking will display a product menu page for the selected manufacturer and category.  Now, some browsers may not display the sub menus.  If this is the case you can click on one of the manufacturer names and a product menu page will be displayed.  Each product menu page contains arrows at the top and bottom of the page.  The arrows will navigate you to each product menu page in sequence, for any given manufacturer.  An arrow will be disabled if you are at the beginning or end of the sequence of pages.

On each product menu page you may click on the thumb nail picture or on the name of the item to display an item feature page.  This page will give a more detailed description of the selected item and also provide you with a button to purchase the item.  The Navigation graphic on the feature pages will do only one thing...take you back to the menu page.  The action is the same as pressing the 'Back' button in your browser or pressing the 'Backspace' key on your keyboard.  Some product feature pages contain more than one item to purchase.  This will give you the ability to purchase your headset bundled with either an adaptor cord or with an amplifier.

The only other navigation graphic on this site appears at the bottom of the 'Shopping Cart' page.  The following section will outline it's function.

How to purchase a headset.
Beside the price, on each item feature page, is a 'Add to Cart' button.  Selecting this link will place the displayed item into the shopping cart.  Select the 'View Cart' button to display the shopping cart.  The item you were viewing appears as one of the entries of the cart along with a description, price and a quantity box.  The quantity can be edited.  Just select the quantity box to be changed.  Delete the current quantity and enter the desired amount.  After that is done select the update icon 'Update' button right above the list of items.  The cart will then be updated.

Deleting an item from the cart is easy.  Just click on the delete icon () to the left of the item to be deleted.  The cart will again be updated to reflect the change.  If you wish you may delete all items in the cart by selecting the 'Delete All' option right above the list of items.  A 'No Items in Cart' warning will appear.  Clicking the 'OK' button will return you to the Store main page.

Selecting 'Return' on the navigation graphic will return you to the Store main page so you may keep browsing our site.  The item(s) in your cart will be saved for you until you check out.  At any time you may view what is in your shopping cart by selecting the 'View Cart' button at the bottom or top of each page.

When you are done shopping you can select the 'Checkout' link on the navigation bar on the shopping cart page.  You will then be taken to a secure server to allow you to enter your personal and credit card info.  When that is done your request is confirmed and your credit card is verified.  Upon completion you will be shown a receipt page and a receipt will be emailed to you.

How to select a headset.
All the headsets we carry have very similar audio properties.  In other words they all have the same high level of audio quality.  The only thing that is left for the purchaser is preference of style.  Ask yourself if you would like something that fits around the ear or one that has a headband.  We do carry a couple of models that that include the hardware to enable the user to wear the headset with either a headband or on-the-ear.

Note:
A complete setup consists of a headset top (the part you wear on your head) and an adaptor.  The adaptor connects the headset top to the phone set.  It can be either an amplifier or a direct connect (NTN) adaptor cord.

How to determine the type of adaptor you need.
Look at the bottom of your phone set, in the area where the cords plug into the phone.  There should be one cord connected from your wall jack and another curly cord connected to your handset.  If you have a third telephone jack the same size as the handset jack then your phone will probably accept a headset directly and you will only need to purchase an adaptor cord (NTN) with your headset.  If you do not have a third jack then you will need to purchase an amplifier adaptor along with your headset.  Also note that some phones sets may need to be programmed for headset use.  Please consult your phone distributor for more info.

How secure is the payment process.
The payment process is of the highest quality available on the internet.  At no time is your credit card info available to anyone.  We are never given that information.  It remains in the secure server at the payment center and can not be accessed by anyone at anytime.  This system is state of the art.  You may view the security page on the web site of our payment processor by clicking here.

How to get service after the sale.
If you require service after you have received your headset your may check out our Service page.  There you will find addresses of manufacturer service centers.

Known Quirks.
Misplacement of picture images.  I have found that some versions of Netscape Navigator 4 will sometimes misplace images on the screen.  If you disable the 'Enable style sheets' option in the 'edit', 'preferences', 'advanced' menu item of Navigator 4 browsers, this problem will correct itself.

There is a known problem between this site's search engine code and Netscape browsers.  The search feature works erratically or not at all when using Netscape.  We are looking into this and will have it corrected in a timely manner.
